HOT KAT
Katrina Kaif has been voted the ‘Sexiest Woman in the World’ by a UK men’s magazine that conducted an online poll in India. BTasks those in the know what she’s got that other’s don’t
THROUGH THE CAMERA: “Katrina is pretty, there’s no doubt about that, and she’ll go to any length to make the picture look good. Her visage is that rare combination of innocence and sensuousness,” says celebrity photographer Dabboo Ratnani, who has worked with Kat on Welcome and several ad campaigns. The photographer, who loves working with Kat, says she’s experimental and easy to work with. “Even when she wears skimpy stuff, she doesn’t look vulgar because she doesn’t make it obvious and awkward,” says Dabboo.
RAMP STAR: Says Sharmila Khanna, fashion choreographer, who has done many shows with Katrina, “She’s got the height, a great bod and everything looks good on her. This is why she’s fabulous on the ramp. She’s hot because her attitude, body and soft ’n’ sexy look make for an unbeatable combination. You can see her sex appeal in the way she moves when she dances.”
STYLISTICALLY SPEAKING: Katrina makes any stylist’s job easy, says Anaita Shroff Adajania, costume stylist for Race. “Katrina’s character in Race moves from a dedicated secretary to a vamp and we had to style her accordingly. And Kat slipped into both the characters so well. She’s definitely sexy and has the advantage of a wellshaped body and good height,” explains Anaita.
IN THE MAKE-UP ROOM: “Her skin texture and tone are perfect for makeup,” says Bharat Godambe, make-up artiste who has been working with Kat since her modelling days. Bharat appreciates the way Katrina maintains her skin and body in spite of her busy work schedule. “She has always looked fresh and toned. I like to work someone with a slim face, glossy skin and flexible hair because all these help to create an effortlessly glamorous look. And with Kat’s features, the whole process becomes simpler. In fact for her, just a little touch-up does the job,” says Bharat.
Agrees Dorris N, hair stylist and make-up artiste, whom Katrina worked with for the first time as a model. “She’s naturally beautiful and doesn’t require too much make-up. Loose hair, natural make-up and lip gloss — that’s all it takes to make her look subtle and sexy,” says Dorris. “Her perfect features add to the appeal.”
DIRECTOR’S CUT: “She’s very focused. Be it comedy or a serious role, Katrina does it with complete dedication,” says director Anees Bazmee, who has done Welcome and Sing is Kinng with Kat. The director feels that her simplicity is what makes her so impressive. “She’s so beautiful that the director doesn’t have to make an extra effort or keep changing lenses to make the frame look perfect. She carries her beauty so subtly that it can sweep anybody off their feet,” adds Anees.

Kat’s a good sport!
Bollywood’s new ‘it’ girl seems to have everything going for her. Ask her and Katrina Kaif says she isn’t a wee bit surprised. “I work really hard. I’ve been giving 14 hours to work each day, and to see all that making way for success and more good work feels really positive,” she says. And the mention of her 14-hour schedules reminds us of a prank she pulled on Sanjay Gupta while shooting for his promotional video recently. “We were shooting for hours without a break, and the rising mercury wasn’t making things easy for us. When somebody came calling during the lunch break , I just told him that I had fainted. And soon after, when I walked out looking absolutely fine, you should have seen their faces. I sure had a good laugh,” says Kats.
Why Katrina was dropped
Director Siddharth Anand says he knocked off the section of Bachna Ae Haseeno that was to feature Katrina Kaif because the film was getting too long. “If we had kept Katrina’s portion intact, Bachna Ae Haseeno would’ve been one of the longest films in the history of Hindi cinema - much beyond three hours,” says the director, admitting it wasn’t easy breaking the news to Katrina. “Nobody had the heart to break the news to her. When she heard she was out, and was upset. But what to do?,” asks the director. Poor Kat!
Katrina Kaif was born on July 16, 1984, in Hong Kong, grew up in Hawaii and then moved to London. Even at the young age of 14, she got modeling offers and started out by modeling for a jewelry campaign. She was attracted to her father’s native land and the moment she landed in India she was flooded with modeling assignments.
She started off with photographer Atul Kasbekar. Later she got offers from Lakme, LG, Cola, Fevicol, Pantene, Veet, Kodak, and L’Oreal. She was chosen as the face of the year for the Lakme India Fashion Week (2005). The Lakme commercial made her very popular. Soon Kaizad Gustad, the director of ‘Boom’ noticed her and offered her a role in the film. Since it was the role of a model, she promptly agreed.
Katrina Kaif, one of the most sought after actress in Bollywood, debuted with a bang through ‘Boom’, a movie about models getting caught up with the underworld. Though the movie bombed, people couldn’t easily forget her angelic face and voluptuous figure. Not many have gained the fans and popularity as a new entrant as Katrina has done.
Katrina Kaif is half Indian and half British. Her father is and NRI and her mother is English, which makes her poor at Hindi. Initially critics were very harsh on her for her poor Hindi. But she has worked hard on her Hindi and started taking dancing lessons—both very essential to survive in the industry. Now she has started dubbing on her own. She has done few movies down south and is a popular face there already.
Although she wears bold outfits on films and ads, she is very particular about her clothes and she feels more comfortable in not-so-revealing clothes in personal life. And unlike others in her field she absolutely hates wearing make up.
Although she has been seeing Salman Khan for sometime now, she still refuses to talk about him in the media. She has made it clear that her personal life is not meant to be known to all and that no one has a right to pass any kind of judgment on it.
